Pc5 geomagnetic field fluctuations at discrete frequencies at a low latitude station

چکیده
A statistical analysis of the geomagnetic field fluctuations in the Pc5 frequency range (1–5 mHz) at a low latitude station (L = 1.6) provides further evidence for daytime power peaks at discrete frequencies. The power enhancements, which become more pronounced during high solar wind pressure conditions, may be interpreted in terms of ground signatures of magnetospheric cavity/waveguide compressional modes driven by solar wind pressure pulses. In this sense, the much clearer statistical evidence for afternoon events can be related to corotating structures mainly impinging the postnoon magnetopause. A comparison with results obtained for the same time intervals from previous investigations at higher latitudes and in the Earth’s magnetosphere confirms the global character of the observed modes.

Low frequency geomagnetic field variations at Dome C (Antarctica)
We conduct an analysis of the geomagnetic field variations recorded at the new Antarctic station Dome C, located very close to the geomagnetic pole, which has been operating for approximately one month during the 1999–2000 campaign. We also perform a comparison with simultaneous measurements at the Italian Antarctic station Terra Nova Bay, in order to investigate the spatial extension of the ph...

On 24 November 2006, simultaneous observations of Pc5 pulsations, electron precipitation and whistlermode chorus, as well as solar wind and IMF parameters have been analyzed based on data from IMAGE magnetometers, riometer array and temporal VLF station. This paper focuses on the Pc5 pulsations detected at the same time, in the 1–25 millihertz range, by the [SQUID]2 system (SQUID magnetometer w...
متن کاملGeomagnetic field fluctuations during the passage at the Earth’s orbit of the tail of the 15–16 July 2000 ejecta
In this work we present the analysis of the geomagnetic field fluctuations observed at different ground stations (approximately along two latitudinal arrays, separated by several hours in local time) during the passage at the Earth’s orbit of the tail of the 15–16 July 2000 coronal ejecta. The time interval of interest is characterized by northward interplanetary magnetic field conditions and s...
متن کاملUnusual strong quasi-monochromatic ground Pc5 geomagnetic pulsations in the recovery phase of November 2003 superstorm
Unusually large-amplitude morning Pc5 magnetic pulsations during the recovery phase of the huge magnetic storm in November 2003 have been studied by using ground-based multi-point observations. Two main spectral Pc5 enhancements were observed: at f≈2 mHz, which featured slowly increasing frequency with decreasing latitude, and at f≈3 mHz, which was latitude independent. The Pc5 pulsations were ...

The passage of a higher pressure solar wind region at the Earth's orbit marked the onset of low latitude L 1:6 ̄uctuations in the frequency range (0.8±5.5 mHz) for both the horizontal geomagnetic ®eld components. Spectral peaks mostly occur at the same frequencies as the spectral enhancements which appeared in the long term analysis of experimental measurements from the same station and wer...
